New old wood

My sister gave me this table a while ago, (I think it was from Pottery Barn) when it was in our old house it didn't look so bad. But then we moved into our current house with its yellow tones EVERYWHERE-blinds, wood flooring, cabinets, I decided if I wanted to keep it, it would have to get a makeover. I planned on staining it some sort of gray color, but for some reason I couldn't find one and I procrastinated cuz I really didn't need another almost full can of paint/stain stored in the garage. Then I saw this on pinterest. It was amazingly easy and cool that I already had everything except the steel wool which I found easily enough at Walmart. Heres what you need:

Cut up the steel wool into smaller pieces, place in glass jar and pour enough vinegar to cover wool. Let sit for 24 hours or longer. The longer it sits, the darker it will be.

vinegar+steel wool soaked 26 hrs

after I sanded, I brushed the table with the brewed tea, let dry

brushed on first coat of vinegar+wool

it goes on DARK but lightens when dry

I did 3 coats, drying completly between applications

sprayed on diamond wood finish and...

Its done!!

I love it now, the yellow tone is completly gone, yay! The pictures show a reddish spot but in person it is not there. My sister wishes it was still hers now!

That is the COOLEST THING EVER!

I had no idea you could make a totally "organic" stain - and WOW what a gorgeous color- I cannot even believe that transformation!

I am SO glad you came by my blog, so then I could find YOU!

    Your table rocks!
